Health is Wealth

Health is Wealth

Through the years, I have had my share of bad eating habits. Yes, I said it and I am sure there are some people that will say I shouldn't be so hard on myself but to be honest I've struggled with food my entire life. The only difference was it was disguised with a hard core running schedule that I was committed to but I never looked at food until I slowed down my running schedule and packed on pounds like no other. It was challenging to say the least. I am the girl who struggled with failed diet after diet. My father died of a massive heart attack in 2016 and after that heartbreaking experience, I still struggled with food. I worked long crazy hours with call times at 2 am because I was in TV.  When covid hit, and my eating became worse, I was always an emotional eater and I drank wine more then I needed on the weekends. That pushed me to the all time high of emotional eating and depression. Then it spiraled into high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Soon after, the medicine was prescribed. It wasn't until I went to my annual doctors appointment to review my bloodwork that declared that I had a Positive Double Strand Marker which concerned my doctor that I could have an autoimmune disease. She sent me to see a rheumatologist.  I was in bad shape. This caused me to really look deep. During this time, I had suffered a meniscus injury. Two years past and I finally get meniscus surgery this year. I then decided I really needed to change my habits. As of October 2020, I committed myself to no meat and a green smoothie diet. I also implemented intermitting fasting starting my eating window at 11 am and I conclude at 6pm.  I am down 20 pounds and feeling alive. Here is one of my favorite morning rituals along with my dinner post that got over 250 views and some private messages.

Green Beauty Smoothie:

2 handfuls of spinach

2 cups of water

1 cup of mixed frozen fruit : Pineapple , apple, peaches, mango

1 teaspoon of Flaxseed/Chia Seeds

1 teaspoon of Prebiotic

* I always lightly blend my greens first

 Jackfruit Stew:

My favorite Stew made with Jackfruit. It is savory and filling.

2 cans of organic jackfruit. (rinsed and broken apart)

sautéed onions, mushrooms, fresh garlic in olive oil

Once sautéed you can add the jackfruit and seasoning. I use garlic powder, onion powder, Goya seasoning, 1 teaspoons of Better than Bouillon in vegetable with one cup of water. I add the water once the bouillon flavors the jackfruit.

Transfer the Jackfruit and mixture to your crockpot. I use a technique pot and I select the beef option.

Cut up red potatoes and organic carrots. Fill the pot with vegetable broth and allow it to cook. I allowed it to cook for 1 hour (until potatoes and carrots are soft)

2020 Is All About Exfoliating

2020 Is All About Exfoliating

2020 has been full of uncertainty but one thing that has been at the forefront of our daily routine is skincare. We have spent approximately 110 days in quarantine and when taking a run to grab essentials, our face is covered with a mask. Exfoliation can be a very difficult step if you aren't sure on products and what steps to implement. Always start with a cleanser followed by an exfoliant, then a toner and don't forget the moisturizer.

What exactly is exfoliation?

Exfoliation is a step in your skincare routine that is needed to remove, lift, and enlighten your beautiful face. The significant point in exfoliating is to remove dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin with the hope of revealing a brighter, more radiant complexion underneath. It can improve and enhance the appearance of your skin and allow your routine to really penetrate giving a beautiful result.

Selecting the best exfoliant depends on your skin type and your skin sensitivities. Whether your skin has a mild or more severe acne, using the right exfoliate will soften the skin and reduce the amount of breakouts. Try adding an exfoliate and work up to a few times a week.
